The Spectacular Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

In the two years since the Eldorado was first introduced by Cadillac, it has won itself a unique place in the hearts of motorist everywhere. Though the Eldorado name originally designated only the convertible model, it will include for 1956 both an open and closed car. The first of these- the spectacular Biarritz- is a true achievement in advanced design and engineering. Its high-sweeping fender lines... its beautiful grille and rear bumper assembly ... its unique "disappearing top" ... its special "Sabre - Spoke" wheels ... its special hood ornament ... its chrome ribbed saddle molding ... and it's many special color options ... give it a beauty all its own. To add still greater glamour, the Biarritz is available with gold wheels and a gold grille. And the Biarritz is powered by a special 305- h.p. Cadillac engine, and offers Cadillac's most advanced features of engineering throughout. In every way, it is a true masterpiece of Cadillac craftsmanship.

The Judge, Addition to a Collection & the Number 1 Connection.

We have a new car to add to the roster, Body #83. Originally purchased brand new by a Judge in San Francisco, it only had two owners since the Judge and stayed in CA the entire time. The 3rd and current owner has owned this beauty since the 1990's.

We have updated news about Body #889. This car recently changed hands again and will be receiving a full chassis off restoration by the new owner. It will be part of a collection of convertibles which include the 1957 Eldorado Biarritz Body #1 that was recently purchased at auction. The new owner rep writes,

Car number 889 a pink bombshell long past her prime is about to get a new lease on life. This car was a hares breath away from living out her days in Brazil. But thanks to her previous owner commitment to keeping her stateside, she will remain in the USA. This masterpiece of Detroit engineering caught the eye of a private collector whose museum like showroom is ironically less than 5 miles from the assembly line where this beauty was born. Her makeover however begins in South Louisiana in the shop of renowned car builder and master restorer Ray Dellumo. After a complete nuts and bolt frame off rotisserie restoration she will be on full display along with other masterpieces of the glory days of Detroit. Within the confines of the Vault Classic Car collection  (which by the way houses only convertibles) will also be no less than four 1954 Buick Skylarks, two 1957 fuel injected Pontiac Bonnevilles, 1957 D,E and F code Thunderbirds, and if that's not enough to blow your skirt up one of the two 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz's has serial number 00001!! The vault is a climate controlled showroom perfectly designed to preserve these American jewels and the history they represent for generations to come.

Biarritz BODY #1.
Eldorado Biarritz Body #1 Pictured here.
Since we are talking about the first '57 Cadillac built, lets discuss the first '56 Cadillac's built shall we. I recently acquired the built sheet to the first 1956 Cadillacs. This is a great historical document on it's own but it also shows us the details to the very first 1956 Eldorado Biarritz built.

As I suspected Eldorado Biarritz Body #1 was indeed Emerald Green in color with a green and white leather interior & white top. It was equipped with a  Gold grille, Gold Sabre wheels, EZ-eye glass, Heater and Power trunk.

Interesting to note it was not equipped with an Autronic eye or air conditioning.

Also important to note, since the Biarritz name was used for the first time in 1956. You're also looking at the very first Cadillac Biarritz EVER built!

Here is the built sheet.
The first Eldorado Biarritz was the sixth 1956 Cadillac built. Serial # 5662---6,

The first group of cars built in August of 1955 were the pre production models. The actual production didn't start until October 4th, 1955 as you can see on the sheet. The pre production models were used for  promotional photos and testing. Here is the list of the first run of 1956 Cadillacs built in serial number order.

1. Coupe deville
2. Series 62 coupe
3. Series 62 convertible
4. Series 62 sedan
5. Eldorado Seville
6. Eldorado Biarritz
7. Sedan Deville
8. Sixty Special
9. Sedan Deville
10. 75 Series Limo
11, 12, 13. Sedan Devilles in Alpine white which was a special request eldorado color.

We can now confirm without a doubt that the first Eldorado Biarritzes built in 1956, 1957 & 1959 were all finished in green paint with green interiors.

1957 Eldorado #1

1959 Eldorado #1
We know that the first 57 and 59 Eldorado still exists. To date the whereabouts of the first '56 is unknown.

If anyone knows what colors the first 54, 55 & 58 Eldorados were, please contact me.
