The Spectacular Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

In the two years since the Eldorado was first introduced by Cadillac, it has won itself a unique place in the hearts of motorist everywhere. Though the Eldorado name originally designated only the convertible model, it will include for 1956 both an open and closed car. The first of these- the spectacular Biarritz- is a true achievement in advanced design and engineering. Its high-sweeping fender lines... its beautiful grille and rear bumper assembly ... its unique "disappearing top" ... its special "Sabre - Spoke" wheels ... its special hood ornament ... its chrome ribbed saddle molding ... and it's many special color options ... give it a beauty all its own. To add still greater glamour, the Biarritz is available with gold wheels and a gold grille. And the Biarritz is powered by a special 305- h.p. Cadillac engine, and offers Cadillac's most advanced features of engineering throughout. In every way, it is a true masterpiece of Cadillac craftsmanship.

Happy 60th Birthday to the 1956 Eldorado Biarritz!

Hi All,

Sixty years ago tomorrow, August 31st 1955, the very first 1956 Eldorado Biarritz rolled off the assembly line. Body #1, Serial #566200006 was painted emerald green with green and white leather interior. It was fitted with gold saber wheels and grille, EZ EYE glass and power trunk. To date this car is not on the list of survivors.

This Eldorado was the very first Biarritz ever built by Cadillac. Although in 1956 the Biarritz name was no where to be found on the car.

The 1956 Eldorado model was a car that offered many first for Cadillac. Here is a list.

The first year for the gold grille
The first and only year for gold Sabre wheels
The first year for the power trunk option
The first and only year for color keyed ribbed aluminum floor mats
The first year for the three way rear view mirror
The first year Cadillac used an electric antenna
The first year air conditioning was available in a convertible
The first year the 365 engine was used by Cadillac.
The first year the Eldorado name was used on the saber wheel hubcaps.
The first year of the remote side view mirror control
The first year PARK was on the gear selector
and finally 1956 was the year when the pink Cadillac was born. Mountain Laurel was available for the first time in '56.

Here is a picture of the very first 1956 Eldorado Biarritz. All of the first built '56 cars were used for publicity photos. Enjoy
